Description
Working steam locos were once a common sight in all parts of Great Britain – until they were finally swept away in the modernisation programme of 1968.
Today, thanks to the efforts of a few far sighted rail fans who set out to capture, on cine film, the everyday comings and goings, it’s possible to once again relive the years when steam ruled supreme.
This choice selection of vintage cine film, with the added benefit of authentic sound from the internationally famous Peter Handford collection, features memorable archive action from all parts of the old British Railways network, including:-
– Birmingham Snow Hill
– Bournemouth main line
– Carnforth shed
– East Coast main line
– Exeter
– Lickey incline
– Settle to Carlisle
– Somerset & Dorset
– Sunderland shed
– West Coast main line
– Locos featured include most of the main pre-grouping and BR standard classes.
