Description
Tibet and its people have for many centuries been shrouded in mystery. For many travellers this ancient mountain land with its distinctive customs and way of life came to symbolise a kind of Shangri La – remote and isolated from the rest of the world.
Until recently it was thought impossible to build a railway line over the mountainous and difficult terrain to connect Tibet with the rest of China. However, this impressive new line, which opened a whole year ahead of schedule in 2006, is already attracting a huge amount of interest from both locals, tourists and railfans.
Thanks to GW Travel an intrepid first group of Westerners were able to sample the new line to Tibet and also enjoyed the connecting journey from Beijing to Golmud by luxury train.
This is your opportunity to join the Tele Rail crew as they ride the highest line in the world and see for yourself facilities on board the brand new Chinese train.
There’s also the chance to explore Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, as well as enjoying some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world including the world’s highest lake. There’s even time for a brief look at Beijing and Xian and the famous Terracotta Warriors.
