Thanks largely to the attention generated by both Rail Freight Today Ireland & New Horizons Ireland the Irish railway scene is rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing interest areas for anyone with an interest in railways outside the UK.

With heavy investment in a new generation of General Motors locos now taking place there’s never been a better time to examine and contrast all the main classes including 001, 121, 141, 181, 071, plus the splendid new class 201 locos.

Superbly photographed at a wide variety of locations, this interesting new programme also includes a visit to Inchicore works and an interview with the Chief Mechanical Engineer of Irish Rail.

Highlights include:-

• 001 class No longer in everyday service this historic class is briefly seen on both freight and passenger duties.

• 121 class Passenger workings between Limerick and Limerick Junction.

• 141 class Freight traffic including freightliner, fertiliser, cement, & engineers trains, also passenger workings between Limerick & Limerick Junction.

• 181 class Featuring a cab ride plus freight traffic including gypsum & cement on the scenic Kingscourt to Drogheda line.

• 071 (& 111) class Passenger services on the Dublin to Waterford line. Also stopping trains between Dublin & Drogheda, and 111s working the Dublin Belfast services.

• Freight includes the new wood traffic to Waterford and the Tara mines services, plus a cab ride. 201 (& 208)class

• The flagship of the new Irish fleet is featured working the prestigious passenger services between Cork and Dublin.

• There’s also plenty of action on the Belfast to Dublin service for the new locos and their Northern Irish cousins, as well as the Dublin to Drogheda push pull services and a cab ride.

• Freight flows include cement & ammonia trains.
