Description

The Beer Heights Light Railway at Pecorama, Beer at the heart of Lyme Bay provides one of the most delightful attractions to visit and ride on through glorious landscaped gardens.

It’s a steam railway in miniature (7.25′ gauge) but with all the features of the full sized mainline network. Points, signals, tunnels, stations, gradients and working steam locomotives help make this more than just like the real thing, it is the real thing!

Now visitors can spend a day on the railway and take part in a fully supervised Driver Experience course learning how to steam a locomotive and drive the trains.

This experience includes an understanding of the route and signaling systems and Programme 1 is designed to enhance that familiarization.

In Part 1 we join the driver in the cab of Claudine for a forward view of the BHLR main line taking a return journey from the railways main terminus at Much Natter.

In Part 2 the programme takes a further circuit of the system but with an explanation of the signals and junctions encountered along the way.

Our guide throughout the programme is self-confessed steam enthusiast and BBC Antiques Road Show expert Paul Atterbury. A handy route map of the BHLR can be found on the reverse of this sleeve.
